Poipet
This photograph was taken at Poipet which is the town on the northern border of Cambodia where you can cross in to Thailand. It really is not an attractive place. The town itself is big and dusty and very busy. People seem edgy and under pressure and not very friendly.A huge number of goods cross the border here and are transported in many different ways.A lot of produce is pushed across in wooden handcarts and a lot is bought over in massively overloaded lorries. It is very common to see passengers riding on top of the huge piles of goods on the back of these lorries. They ride for miles at breakneck speeds with nothing to hold on to and appear to be completely relaxed whilst doing so .I have seen the passengers riding so high that they have to lift the electicity cables that cross the roads up with their hands in order to be able to pass under them. Terrifying!
