Enthralled by....

darkness.

I have seen the second half of this film twice now - I have bought it on DVD to watch right the way through and also bought the novelisation of it, which for the purists on the interwebby didn't seem to be their cup of tea. I can understand this, given that the film is based upon an original DC comic novel and I can relate to why people would feel that a novelisation of a film based upon a comic novel might be strange, pointless or random.

However, having read the first 8 chapters in quick time, I now have a grasp of the film from the beginning, and actually I have been able to separate the images in my head that the writer has created from the memories of characters from the film. I intend to complete the book before I watch it again.

It has overtones of 1984 in some respects. I love the hero (who is a villain to most, but ....), I love how the story unfolds and the jigsaw is put together, in not necessarily a logical order, but enough in each chapter to build the story.

I like it, purists be damned.

On that note, having stopped number crunching at 9.30 this evening (started at 6pm) and having done a little bit of 'hoop jumping' at a course this afternoon, I am to retire to the couch, with my specs, my book and a glass of JP Chenet.

(I knew there was a reason why I hammered through my reports yesterday!)
