Fading flowers

These flowers were part of a bouquet brought by my neighbour for the curry evening over a week ago. They are finished now but when I looked at them this morning I was reminded of the old friend I am going to see today.
I have known her for over 30 years and she has inspired me in many ways. An excellent actress, fabulous cook and style was everything, (still is). Life is tough for her these days, she lost her husband, another dear friend of mine, a year ago. Her health is failing, she's unhappy. I'm going to spend the day with her in York. No doubt she will have prepared some delicacy for lunch and will be decked out with her beloved eyeshadows and 'glam' wear. She wouldn't hear of me taking anything as she felt she needed to 'do' things as she always has. So, here I am all smartened up in a dress(!) powder and paint as befits the occasion.
