Unsurprisingly the approaching New Year meant hearing the familiar question. ?What is your New Year?s Resolution going to be?? asked my hubbie. It took a few seconds for the usual responses to flicker through my mind ? lose weight, keep a dairy, be more organised etc etc. However, instead on replying with one of those all-too-familiar responses I found myself, at the risk of sounding clichéd, saying ?to become a better person.?
I?ve always considered myself to be a fairly decent person but, upon reconsideration, there is definite room for improvement. I could be less judgemental, less selfish, less materialistic. Afterall, it?s not about where we live, what car we drive, how many holidays we have each year or a fancy job title. As far as I?m aware, those details aren?t the ones listed on headstones around the world. Again, at the risk of sounding cheesy, it?s about who we love, who loves us, family, friends and health. I think it?s also about being proud of who we are ? I want to feel proud of the person I am, and at the moment, I don?t.
Therefore, the reason for my journal is to help me to re-evaluate what is important to me in my life and to help me to filter out the things that never were important in the first place. Hence the name ? ?Counting My Blessings?
