My name is Lorraine, I recently moved from an extremely stressful job to a lovely job which is giving me a great work life balance. As I now have so much more time to do things at the weekend and at nights, my sons were recommending I find a hobby!

I have always admired people who can take nice pictures and wished I could do the same. I would like to be able to hang some nice pictures I've taken in my own home. A few years ago I joined a camera club near my home and tried to expand my knowledge and gain some experience, however, felt the club was more geared at competitions rather than teaching, which is maybe the case with them all, not sure. I didn't last too long and gave up.

Last year I changed my phone to a blackberry and started to take pictures with it, to my surprise they were quite good quality. One day I took a picture of my son which turned out great, some friends were all talking about the great composition and the way I had used the reflection of the clouds to brighten the fore ground area was great... unfortunately, none of this was deliberate, but it really kick started me to do something. See my first entry.

I had a birthday coming up and decided I would purchase my first digital camera, took advice from a couple of photographers I know, read the reviews etc and eventually bought the Cannon 550D.

I love the camera and I am trying to learn my way about all its amazing features, however, as this is my first digital camera, I have a lot to learn. Plus, so far the picture I took with my blackberry has been viewed and commented on the most so far...

I am enjoying learning and reading about photography and love this web site. I hope by the time I reach my 100th blip, I will be able to see some improvements in my pictures.
