Masterton - Home of Golden Shears, Wairarapa, NZ
Masterton holds the annual World's Preminer Shearing and Wool Handling Championships which first started in 1958.
It is the largest town located in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand, an hour north east of Wellington. Many people communte to Wellington daily by rail for their place of work. It is a region of wine, food, farming and being situated north east has a rugged coastline to the Pacific Ocean.

Art Deco Public Trust Building
Art Deco Wairarapa Times-Age Building - Designed in 1937 and is home to the local newspaper.
Queen Elizabeth Park - The Pownall Gate was dedicated to Charles Arthur Pownall a barrister and solicitor who was elected Mayor at the age of 24yrs in 1889. He had a special interest in the beautification of the town and park. In the early 1960's an arch was erected over the gate bearing the words "Queen Elizabeth Park".
The park consists of the following:
Wairarapa Soldiers Memorial, Pioneer Cemetery, The Hosking Garden, Brass Band Rooms and Rotunda, Grandstand and Sports Bowl, Lake of Remembrance and a small Railway.
Today we travelled to Wellington to help with Daughter A and returned to Masterton in the early afternoon. After tea a stroll round the town and finishing at Henley Lake to catch the sunset.
