Christchurch Quake Recovery
Hey guys As you would have heard The people of canterbury have had a hard 6 months since our september 4th earthquake, but last tuesday on the 22nd of feb we faced our biggest challenge to date, another major earthquake this time taking more than just the heritage buildings, this time taking the worst part of all, life.
As I write this the death toll currently stands at 113 with 200 missing, this toll is expected to rise in the next few weeks. Many are left without power or water and many friends and families left without fathers, mothers, daughters or sons.
One thing that people here in Canterbury have is spirit, not once yet have I seen someone give up and call it a lost cause. Everyone is fighting to bring our city back to its once beautiful state.
Today I went along with one of the many earthquake recovery teams put together by the youth or christchurch. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rangiora-Earthquake-Help-Team/195744550443195
We went through the town of kiaipoi and cleaned up Tonnes of silt that has risen from below covering gardens, paths, driveways and even inside houses. Many of these houses have been condemed and expected to be pulled down due to them being unsafe. The turnout of these recovery teams is amazing, people coming from all over to bring a smile to those effected by this disaster.
It's all worth it if one persons day is brightened.
My thoughts are with those family and friends who won't be seeing someone they love.
