Purple in Pamplona
No bullfights or bull runs this time of year I'm afraid. So had to settle for a shot of a lamppost. Not so exciting, I know. The weather was shit. Heavy rain that dribbled down your back. It was the kind of the place that should be visited in the summer, or late spring just outside the tourist season.
The architecture was beautiful, like in so many cities in Northern Spain. Slanty builings gave shelter to cobbled lanes and there were traces of Hemingway everywhere. The Cafe Iruna, where Hemingway often drank during his time there, boasted the fact on the sign. Although I don't think it is specifically mentioned, I think it is often described in his book The Sun Also Rises. There were also street?s named after him. Especially around the bullring where he spent a lot of time gathering material for his novel. I imagine that Hemingway had a lot to do with the exposure of Pamplona?s culture to America and other parts of Europe, so in a move of gratitude, Pamplona has made sure that his name will be remembered and indeed, shown off within their city walls.
