Grandpa's beach

My Grandfather died 3 years ago today and I think that it was fitting that I am at his beach today. My husband and boys are at the mountain for a ski weekend so I decided to forget about the weather warnings and load up my Lil' L and Buddy and head to "our beach" Arch Cape.

This is the beach that I grew up going to. My Grandparents have had a house here since I was a small little girl. We spent many years making amazing family memories. My brothers, cousins and I spent endless hours digging in this sand. Now it has become a wonderful place to share with my children.

It is very hard growing up and discovering that things can't always stay the same. I so wish that I could still be that little girl walking the sand with my Grandpa. It is so hard to see his house now empty and for sale. We now stay at my parents beach house that they bought 8 years ago in the same little town. We are now making new family memories. Now it is my parents turn to be the Grandparents.

He was an amazing man and husband. I will never begin to be able to do him justice in this blip. He was such an inspiration to the people that knew and loved him. He did not have the easiest of lives. My Grandmother got very sick in her forties and developed permant brain damage. She was very hard to care for, but my Grandpa never stopped loving and caring for her. Many men would have put her in a nursing home, but not him. He cared for her for 30 more years. He devoted his life to her and taught us all a lot about true love. I miss him and think of him daily. I do however find comfort in knowing that I had the best Grandpa that a girl could have ever wished for. I love you Grandpa........
