Sonora & Columbia
This morning we left for Sonora for Loren's BML soccer games. Although I wasn't sure I'd like traveling for sports, I am enjoying seeing all the different locations. Today it was at Sonora High School's Dunlavy Field. Found out from a friend that this field was re-done thanks to a show called Three Wishes hosted by Amy Grant several years back. A little write-up about it can be seen here. It was a great field. The boys had to get used to the speed of the soccer ball on the artificial turf. We arrived with layers of clothes because we were told a few weeks back that it may be snowing. I was dressed like an eskimo only to find it sunny and warm! Started in the mid-60s and ended in the mid-70s! While we were watching the games, Landon and Liam entertained themselves going up and down the bleachers and running the track. There was also a long-jump pit that Landon and Liam promptly tried to use as a sandbox until I told them the high school wouldn't be happy with that.
They unfortunately had their first loss of the All Star Season to Ceres today. The score ended in 0-1. I thought that it was a pretty decent score considering the team we lost to has a record of 6-0 so far. We did, however, win the second game 5-0!!! Way to go Thunderstorm! 4(wins)-1 (loss)-3 (ties). I have learned this week that Loren has gained several nicknames on his team. He has really long legs and the coaches said that during a recent game an opposing team's player reached the ball fare before Loren did, but somehow Loren's long leg stretched behind him and the other player and snagged a ball. The coaches said their mouth's dropped upon seeing this and since then Loren is known as "Stretch", Loren Long Legs and my recent name for him, "Elasti-Boy". The way they described this story had me practically rolling on the floor laughing.
Gary planned a little outing to Columbia nearby after the 2 soccer games and lunch. It has 17 years since Gary and I had been there when we were first dating. It's a cute little historic town. The boys had fun visiting an old time candy store. Loren got a chocolate covered marshmallow bar, Liam and Landon got candy corn and gummy sharks, Gary sampled fudge and I got a few chocolate/caramel turtles. Yummy! Then we walked around and learned some history about carpentry, saw an old-time bowling lane, made bubbles from linen strings on a stick, saw some beautiful Dominique chickens, watched some gold panning, climbed boulders (them, not I), etc. The boys said they loved Columbia on our way out and we'll return again when in the area. I CHOSE MY BLIP PHOTO FROM THE OLD TIME PHOTO THE BOYS TOOK IN COLUMBIA. MY 3 BANDITOS! I love how they found a creative way to hide Loren's soccer shorts behind a lantern and Landon's Buzz Lightyear shoes behind a bucket. I told them the boys that although we're hurting for money quite often, try not to rob a bank for mama again ;)
We headed to our hotel after grabbing a pizza from a local pizza place. While searching for pizza's tonight, I got a kick out of the name of one of their parlor's "U Kneada Pizza"! Love it! That's when my bestie commented "U Kneada Massage". That would be correct too. I only wish my massage therapist pal lived closer!
