White Ribbon
Up early, pack lunch made, dog things packed and picked up Susie for a wee walk.
We headed to Eyemouth and parked the car and waited on the bus to Berwick Upon Tweed. We did not realise it was a 'local' bus, my word what an entertaining journey. Walked around Berwick and then found the shore and started to head North. The surf was superb, the noise a constant companion with the white ribbon clinging to the coast.
It was muddy underfoot but the cliffs and seascape stunning in the dark grey light and low cloud. Many caravans pasted on the way, many empty looking out to sea.
Lots of seabirds sheltering from the energetic sea and no boats challenging the the power.
We crossed the border with sun breaking through the low cloud, it started to brighten up. First civilisatuion at Burnmouth were the path takes you brilliantly tight between the houses. A lunch stop and we watched the local kids raft and rock pool in the shallows away from the surf.
The cliffs reached the highest point at Fancove Head and the mass of Eyemouth appeared to the North. The shore was lower after this but the scenery spectular as the waves crashed in on the twisted dykes on rock, the air full of spray and the beaches smothered with white foam.
A walk round Eyemouth, a walk down memory lane for me with many holidays spent here.
Juno still full of energy played on the freshly exposed sands chasing kelp stalks, I collected sea glass.
A brilliant walk in very good company, home to what I thought was a rugby game which turned into a Welsh training session.
Eco son packed , his pal staying as I am taking both to meet the bus. Must get to bed for a 3.30 start, ah.
