St Mungo's
We had a trip to Glasgow today and I wanted to go to Glasgow Cathedral. There is no photograph I could take that would do this incredible building justice so I chose this angel instead.
The Cathedral was built in the 12th century and survived the Reformation relatively unscathed which is why it is in such marvellous condition, despite the best efforts of the Victorians to "restore" it in the way only they knew how.
It once housed the remains of 6th century bishop St Kentigern and today an altar stands where the tomb once was although the issue of where Kentigern is now is fudged over somewhat. Mungo is a sort of nickname and means "dear beloved". Kentigern's mother Enoch has a shopping centre, a square and a tube station named after her.
