A Taste of Egypt
I've been following the events in Cairo over the last few days with eager interest as I have friends and family who have either been to Egypt recently, or are planning to go there on holiday soon. Luckily its a bit calmer on the Red Sea resorts compared to all the action in downtown Cairo today. Maybe in a few years time, I can introduce my own family to the delights of Egyptian culture.
So, tonights blip comes from my last visit. I was lucky enough to visit the port of Alexandria in 1998 whilst serving on board the mighty HMS Cardiff for my initial sea training. This was my first decent visit after doing the south of Italy to death time and time again. One of the days I was there, I had the pleasure of visiting Cairo, and the Pyramids, including the famous sound and light show. Anyone who has visitged the Pyramids will know what I mean.
These wee treasures have adorned my shelves ever since I moved in with Emma a year later, having spent a year at my mum and dads house while I was at sea. I have been cursed by Emma and my own parents for hoarding 'tacky gizzits', but some things are just worth keeping. I think these look nice anyway.
I've got two weeks off to look forward to now as Emma will be having our baby early next week, so we'll have another wee treasure in this house to look after and adore.
