Half Mast

I was in town having coffee with a client this morning, and took some time to photograph some of Christchurch's older buildings. 1905 can you believe.

Of course we were only discovered, or the land was, in 1769 by Captain Cook with the Treaty of Waitangi signed in 1840, when about 2000 Europeans had settled here.

Anyway, while photographing I noticed this flag at half mast. You may not know that New Zealand's most famous person died last week, Sir Edmund Hilary. He was best known for his first ascent of Mt Everest but he undertook numerous other endeavours, many in Antarctica.

For many he will be best remembered for the community work he did in the Himalayas building hospitals and schools for the Sherpa's.

Rest in peace Sir Ed, you will be sorely missed by us all.
