the ship's cat
We have a wonderful big dressing up box full to the brim with an odd assortment of garments and accessories. The beautiful old box belonged to the children's paternal Great-Grandpa when he was a young man.
A real favourite is the bear suit, which sadly Beau has almost outgrown.
It fits Orlando better now.
It is hard for Beau to give up the bear as it's a part of his identity.
Dressing up has been a feature of the week.
Today Orlando was a kitten (Beau was a pirate).
On Wednesday he was an army man.
On Thursday he wore a Chinese jacket and trouser suit with a pink leotarded tutu over the top.
On Friday he was a biker with a red helmet and a big backpack strapped to his little back.
Dressing-up featured heavily in my childhood and I love that they have no hesitation in digging into the box and coming out as someone else.
It feeds a genetically wild and eccentric side of them which I hope they never grow out of.
There are numerous older members of the family who, thankfully, show no sign of ever closing the lid on dressing-up.
