Stroud Potato Day

Today was Stroud's first ever potato day. Picture is one fo the organisers and renown green blogger Philip Booth bagging seed potatoes.

We've been celebrating apple day in October for years and potato day is an extension of the idea, encouraging people to grow their own and introducing them to new varieties.

The event was organised by Transition Stroud, a community organisation that's part of the worldwide Transition Towns initiative and seeks to encourage greater levels of local self reliance. Hence the promotion of growing your own food. Remember potatoes are more than just chips.
