Mauritian Colonial Mansion

Yesterday, I said I would probably be blipping a waterfall today. We did see said waterfall but it was chucking it down and the few pictures we did take are shrouded in a fine mist of rain.

This one turned out ok though. This is a mansion house built by an early British settler (I'm picturing some sort of moustachioed, monocle wearing 18th century explorer) but most of it's history is french. I can imagine it was a rather pleasant place to settle in it's day. Facts of the day, this house has 109 doors and is called the Eureka mansion as apparently that was the expression exclaimed when it was won at a auction by some filthy rich frenchman.

Brilliant day all round. Other highlights, other than the waterfall (nearly 100m high, quite something to behold) were a rum distillery. I tried all of their offerings and felt a little light headed for the rest of the day. We also saw something called the 7 coloured earth, basically a load of different coloured soil on a sculpted landscape. It was way cooler than my description. And lastly, we saw some giant tortoises (or is that torti?). They were pretty cute, so much so that I felt the urge to pat one on the head despite being told that they can bite. Becci gave one a little tickle for good measure. Then we stood back and watched them unsuccessfully trying to hump each other. It was quite a spectacle.

Booked in for a massage each tomorrow and then a slap up steak dinner in the evening. Do we have to come home? Hope not. If somebody wants to set off another ash-spewing volcano that grounds all flights, that would be terrific.
