And to think that I saw it ...

I was out for a walk, camera in tow, when I met this horse and her mate. She caught my attention because of the way she was mouthing the top of the gate. At first I thought she was just rubbing the lichen off, It wasn't until I got right up close that I realised she was actually biting and eating the edge of the wood. I have no idea why - maybe she is lacking something in her diet, or maybe it works as dental polish which she could certainly do with. Whatever it was, she was perfectly happy to stop and have a chat to me and eat some grass out of my hand. Though I did notice that as soon as I walked away she was back biting bits off the gate. Weird.
