Piles of words

Usually I insist on subscribing to the newspaper while S wonders why, since we hardly read it. After I returned, I wasn't keen on re-subscribing while she insisted. So today was the first day when the paper was delivered. The first page had Egypt and crime, the next two had only crime. After local it proceeded to national crime. By the time I turned to page 8, we were still on crime. A couple of pages down, we had moved from murder, rape and robbery to corruption and scams. In between there was a small column on religion. Finally there was a page on international news which also centred around crime. And an irrelevant quote from Gwyneth Paltrow. And then there was the sports section with much cricket and some Torres. So here we are in India, priding ourselves on notions like cultural wealth and whatnot, no evidence of which was to be found in today's newspaper. I'll try out tomorrow's with fingers crossed. Or return to words between harder covers.

It's good to be reminded that there are places where it is natural to be civil and courteous.
