Lock and Key
Today I took it upon myself to learn a little about the action of Statins. I was trying to find out for a relative if they just prevented new cholesterol building up or if they could possibly reduce the plaque already there. The drugs work by inhibiting an enzyme, therefore reducing the levels of 'bad' cholesterol in the blood and so hopefully stopping any more build up in the arteries. So, no, sadly no removal of what's already there. That said they are pretty amazing things!
I also found out today that another name for enzyme is the 'lock and key' model. Funny, since I only found that out after I'd taken the picture and was searching for something poignant to go with it.
In the end its nothing meaningful as such, other than I seem to find science in everything I see somehow. Am I obsessed?
