The (not so) quiet life

Today was the day the power company switched the power off to carry out some essential maintenance work on the power lines. We have been told twice before that this was going to happen. Both times we took Satans Minions out for the day, reasoning that 8 hours in a house with no heating, water or tv for them to gawp at would end in carnage worthy of a slot on the ten o'clock news. Both times the power company failed to turn off the elecrticity and get the work done.

So today we headed out again. After nursery, creche and Body Balance (fab as always thanks Rachael) we went for lunch and then to get various supplies for Minion number twos birthday party before heading to the park. For the most part Satans Minions were well behaved and a nice day was had by all. We got back around half four expecting the power back on around five. Five o'cock came and went as did alll natural daylight and still no electricity. By this time the Minions were rather cold and hungry so we got back into the car and went in search of some high viz jackets and answers. After standing yelling across a field (I would make a marvellous fish wife- must be all the practice I get from yelling at Satans Minions) one of the jackets saunterd over. Cabling problems apparently. Power back on at six.

We headed home to light some candles and have cheese sandwiches for dinner. Minion number one fell asleep at the breakfast bar and the power eventually came back on at quarter past seven. Scottish and Souther Energy suck.

This is the view on the way down the road this morning. You can just see the pylon that was essentially maintained.

Quote of the day: "Stop licking that car." Me to Minion number one. And we hope to live off her in our retirement. Oh dear.
