An unassuming Mosque

Dubai tends to be associated with grandiose architecture, and my neighbourhood (Umm Suqeim) has a number of very beautiful and impressive mosques, as well as many incredible private houses on the seafront. I cycle past a lot of them on my occasional early evening bike ride, but I find my eye is drawn to the older, more modest buildings. The mosque to which this combined ablution block and minaret belongs must be the most humble one in the area, but I imagine that the prayers offered up here are just as sincere as those from more expensive buildings. I altered my routine to get a picture with the morning sun, and am glad that I did.
Just down the street is a villa where an old Emirati lady usually comes out to sit and watch the world go by at the same time as I wheeze past on my bike. We always wave at each other. She looks extremely picturesque in her traditional abaya and face mask, but I have yet to summon up the courage to ask to take her picture (plus my Arabic is not up to it!).
