Big Rig Jig
This was the art centerpiece for the Burning Man Festival in 2007 at Black Rock City, Nevada. The Big Rig Jig was made of two real gasoline tanker trucks (motors removed, tanks curled after wedges were removed) with ladders inside the tanks and ferns and soft lighting, so that one could climb through the thing to the top. The picture shows it before its opening night, and I confess that the Hi-Lo behind it spoils the shot. The upper truck is attached only to the end of the lower truck. It's 42 feet tall.
This sculpture made a strong impression on me, and I don't know what became of it after the festival (It may have been installed in a town in Europe) but if it were placed in Central London or NYC or Paris, it would be the talk of the world. Gleaming in the desert sun, way out in the playa it was quite stunning.
