Charter Tower

A big shout out to Edisteve for the inspiration.

I have visited this spot several times over the past year whilst taking Hugo to training. I am really pleased with the idea of taking the photo at an angle rather than the simple "straight on" approach I have previously taken.

Local lore has it that when King Henry VIII visited Hemel Hempstead with Anne Bolelyn, he stayed at the Bury in Gadebridge Park, belonging to John Waterhouse. These are the only remains the rest is a walled garden. These remains known as the 'Charter Tower' were the porch of 'The Bury'.

Apparently it was from this window on 29th December, 1539 that King Henry handed down the charter of incorporation allowing the town to have a market, a fair, and a court of piepowder to be held during markets and fairs.
