Sgwarnog: In the Field

Now on Sale

For the past couple of months Bradford's Alhambra Theatre has been engaged in some guerilla advertising on the side of their neglected neighbour, the disused Bradford Odeon. A projector in the theatre has been shooting out promotional messages, first for the current pantomime (Snow White), and now for next Christmas' - Robin Hood.

I was lucky enough to go on a behind the scenes tour of the Alhambra in the Autumn, which included getting up on the stage in the midst of the Evita props. The stage is the largest in the north of England, which is why it can take the largest West End shows as they are intended to be seen, without any down scaling. The Alhambra's pantomimes are also one of the top draws in the country, with almost 100,000 seats sold in each season.

Sadly, the story of the Odeon is not so positive, but there is a strong local campaign to get it brought back into use.

I expect I'll share daytime images of both the Alhambra and the Odeon in this blog at some point, but for now I offer this opportunistic, ephemaral image. It does rather expose my technical limitations in night photography, but I thought it was still a nice image despite its fuzziness. The presence of the moon adds something to the atmosphere.
