Knoydart New Year #6

Images from an idyllic week in the Knoydart peninsula with 14 friends, old (or should I say deep?) and newer (but definitely not shallower!)...

After seeing the weather forecast for Monday and beyond, it was clear that our hillwalking was done. You notice the rain less when you are swimming (or so I'm told, I didn't try...). Peter, in the middle, has history when it comes to taking unpleasantly cold dips in the sea. And there is family hertiage there too, I understand. Michael's excuse is that Helen wanted to go swimming, so he couldn't say no...

The knife-like water brought a sharp start to a day of games, story-telling, and nibbling. It was a sociable end to our week together in this remote highland community. The atmosphere inside our cottage was a contrast to the desolate weather upon which we were looking out.

What was even better was that Helen and I picked up a pool cue in the evening to challenge two representatives of the Edinburgh University student group to a frame of pool. Much to our surprise, we maintained the reputation of the University of Cambridge, coming out on top after a slow start... Helen was deservedly carried aloft back to out cottage, glowing from the victory of the week!
