O Captain! My Captain!

I couldn't let 2010 go by without paying tribute to Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart, who died on 17th December after suffering for many years with multiple sclerosis. I realise his music, a blend of psychedelia, free jazz, rock'n'roll and most important to me blues, isn't to everyones taste but I find it amazing. Trout Mask Replica is my favourite album by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band and still gets played when I need something to get "out there". He later went on to produce astonishing pieces of art.
