Grandads Winter Wonderland!
After weeks of planning and cursing over the recent weather conditions, we finally made the decision to head north for Christmas, back to my old stamping ground and spend a few days with my mum and dad.... Postie and Mrs P as my dad has put it. Even on the day before, the Midlands had received the latest dump of snow, and we had Emma's mum begging us not to go.
After careful consideration and thought, we woke up early on the 23rd - just before 4am to be precise - and set off on our merry way. After a couple of stops to clear the window and de-ice the screenwash mixture, we had a proper stop north of Lancaster for a breakfast not long after dawn.
After this, we continued northward, eventually arriving at mum and dads in Rosyth just before 12 noon to the shock and disbelief of the rest of our family!!
To be fair, we had an excellent drive up, with minimal snow cover on the roads - the worst of that being on Shap Summit. It was only when we turned the final corner after leaving the motorway after the Forth Bridge when we stepped back in time. I knew that Scotland had been badly hit, but to see so much hard packed snow was quite a surprise. I just had to grab this shot after I had got the car unloaded.
The best thing was...we had the rest of the day to wind down until the appearance of the Wilsons later on.
All I had to say at this point was......
Poor Grandad!
