This is where my sister and I spent Saturday night. We left for Heathrow at 8.40am on Saturday morning having stayed over night in an airport hotel. We the stood in a queue to check in to be told that we needed to go to the ticket desk first. After a bit of a faff we finally checked in and headed through security. We the required breakfast and had coffee and muffins from Costa. A wonder round the shops later we had a boarding gate. At this point planes were taking off dispite the blizzard outside. An hour later our gate got changed again to the other side of the airport. This gate had our plane parked outside it. Progress you'd think?

After many hours of 'thanking us for our patience' a few episodes of CSI, buying and watching a DVD of the Grinch who stole Christmas, making friends with the kids opposite us and more muffins and coffee, the finally cancelled our flight.

Then the chaos started. At this point all flights has been cancelled and at least 2000 were in the baggage reclaim area trying to work out where to collect there luggage from and what to do next. Eventually we found the right carocel and our luggage. The a queue to get 'a letter with further information' which told us nothing appart from our flight was cancelled and a number to call Monday to Saturday to rebook tickets. Not much use on Saturday evening.

We then headed up to the Check in area, attempted to speak to a Quatar Airways rep who told us all that there were no hotels and the desk would reopen at 6am to rebook flights.

We then found a bit of free floor space and set up camp. Above is the second version of our camp. The first used our pashminas for a roof but I managed to be heading to the toilets as they were giving out water and foil blankets so the improved camp was built.

This is far too long already so I'll continue with this mornings adventures later.
