Finally......

Finally.......I got my kids to eat chicken tonight. Chicken prepared and baked in the oven. Chicken that wasn't in the form of a nugget. Finally, I have legitimate chicken eaters now and that little victory in our household makes me very happy. And the funny thing is, they both liked it. That is the funny thing because they are both such picky eaters and after all the fuss, they BOTH actually liked it. I had warned them all day long that they would be eating homemade chicken for dinner. Lots of reminders through out the day. There was definitely some fuss, some "yucky's", and "I don't like that" but when everything was said and done, they each ate half of a large chicken breast.

Tomorrow morning. I have told them that tomorrow morning, they will be drinking a Pedialyte Chocolate Drink with a whole banana blended into it (thanks to my sweetheart Mom-in-law for the drinks). They each had a taste tonight. Both of them gagged. But they each drank a glass. Tomorrow, they will each be drinking a glass. Things are changing in their little eating world. Time for a little bit more tough love. I have to remind them that when they were babies, they ate everything that I made for them. I even went as far as making their baby food with organic fruits and veggies. Lots of chicken. Meals packed full of vitamins and protein. Little did I know that when they both got old enough to start making choices about things like food, they would refuse so much of it. And it has been hard for us to deal with as we both eat a wide variety of healthy foods.

So today, the law was laid down. They are both old enough to understand consequences and the power struggle needs to cease. We definitely don't want to make food an issue and a negative thing and that is why we struggle so much with their limited diets. We would rather sit around the table sharing love and conversation than making dinner a time of crying, refusal, and frustration. I know every household has their own opinions about what works and what doesn't. And ultimately, we will do what we feel is right for us. Having two picky eaters has been our challenge. So for now, we celebrate small victories. Freshly baked chicken and a banana smoothie. Small steps......so today, I blipped a veggie. Someday, my kids will appreciate their vegetables. Someday.
