Our Favorite Checker....
Our favorite checker. We have a favorite checker that works at the grocery store near our house. She is wonderful. I blipped a little story about her a week or so ago about her letting my son run the conveyor belt and help load the groceries. And today she saw us coming and said to my son, "Okay buddy, go hit the button.....it's time for you to load some groceries". I mean seriously, so nice. And I told her that. I even told her that I wrote about her act of kindness in an online journal and she just smiled and said, "Hey, I have 3 kids".
I also felt the need to fess up that I was responsible for the 'clean-up on isle 3'. That I was the one who put the alfredo sauce in the cart only to have it fall out of the kiddie seat area and smash all over the floor. And then I was also the one who knocked over another jar, this time marinara, while waiting for the clean-up guy for spill number 1. Again, she just laughed and said not to worry about it. "I'll pay for them" I told her. "No (laughing) it's really not a problem at all".
Then she goes on to say:
A tornado is heading our way in about a half an hour.
WHAT?
A tornado.
An actual tornado? You aren't serious.
I kid you not. My phone updates me every time there is breaking news and right now, the tornado has touched down about 40 or so miles from here.
What? A tornado. Here? In our state?
I know. it's crazy.
Well shoot, I better get ourselves on home then.
Then when we got in the car I said to the kids, "We need to hurry home, there might be a big storm coming". And my son says, "How do you know Mom, you're not the weather guy". "Hmm, true, very very true" I laughed.
When we got home I turned on the news and sure enough, we did have a tornado touch ground in our part of the state and it ripped the roof off of a couple of homes. Very scary and so unexpected. Sending warm thoughts and prayers to the members of the small little community who were so unexpectedly affected by this today.
