Howling open faced barrel....

Hired a car today, the last full day of our stay in Easter Island. Really saved the best til last. Went to a beautiful beach, where there were 5 Moai restored by Thor Heyerdahl, then on past the tallest Moai to have been erected on an Ahu, he was toppled, but at 10 metres tall with a 2 metre high top knot, I am amazed how the indigenous tribes put these statues up.

Then we saw Tongariki, see mrs EGs blip, 13 standing Moai, in a beautiful setting. And Ranu Raraku, which is the quarry where they carved teh moai from the cliff face, moved them down the hill and to their sites. It was like a Moai graveyard, they were sticking up all over, part carved ones in the cliff at all angles, broken ones littered the track away from the quarry, the biggest there was 21 metres high!!

We passed this point wher the surf was breaking along the south side of the island. This was a Death on a Stick break, caught on the inside a surfer would be smashed against the volcanic rocks.... Just beautiful watching the sea exploding against the shore here.
