A Right Royal Occasion
As with any important date and any 'firsts', its good to know that our boys, our brave soldiers, can pull out all the stops. Having guarded the eggs overnight, they put on a splendid display of changing of the guard before we started the proceedings. Our man stood strong and fast, no amount of requests for a smile and silly antics could get him to deviate from his task. A true soldier.
Only within the past year has my girl been able to eat eggs without the use of oxygen! Quite something. And my is she enjoying them! She likes them scrambled, she likes them poached, she loves them fried on a sandwich and an fresh egg sandwich with just the right amount of mayo is a dream.
Today was her first ever boiled egg and soldiers. 16 years old and never had a boiled egg or soilders - what kind of a childhood is that? The necessary accoutriments were a birthday present. In Delia stye I took her through the steps, cold water, wait for the boiling point, put the timer on, toast in, make tea, get ready. Then suddenly Attention! The toast pops, the beeper goes, the egg is ready and so are the soldiers.
It didn't disappoint and she is looking forward to her next first. Ah, youth, so much ahead, so much to try.
Tree gathering day today, as No.1 boy is away all next week. We need his muscle to help with the hoist. The biggest ever I believe. God knows where we can sit now but it looks marvellous. Just need the injection of spirit.
