Mr. Robin Redbreast
Still snowing on and off but no sign of a thaw at all. Today we didn't even bother going out for a walk. Fed up with it to be honest with you and at least 4 more days of this to go yet.
The birds are starving and every scrap of food we put out for them is snatched quickly and voraciously. Santa had hoarded a new bird table for Mrs. Joesblips up in the attic but took pity on the small birds and brought it down as an early Christmas present for she who had it on her list. The starlings quickly colonised it and in their quarrellsomness tossed as much food down onto the ground as they managed to consume. While they were busy fighting up above our resident robin moved in underneath and happily chomped away on all the gifts from up top.
Just a note for my Finnish friends in particular... most Irish gardens have a resident robin. Never more than one as they are very territorial and will not tolerate another on their patch. I believe that in Finland and other places the robin is a bird of the woods but over here they are very friendly and we love to have their company in the garden where they will often follow as we dig the soil, quite literally snatching insects out from under our feet.
