Mount Everest

On the 8th of June 1924 two British climbers, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine left their camp on Mt Everest in their bid to be the first to reach the summit, neither returned. They were last seen "going strong for the top" on the North East ridge.
Did they summit 29 years before Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay?
