Londesborough Hall was built in 1589 by the Earl of Cumberland.
In 1819 the hall was owned by the Devonshires and the 6th duke inherited a large debt from his father. Because of this and having many expensive interests to pay for he decided in his "wisdom" to demolish the hall and use this to reconstruct Chatsworth House. The estate was sold in 1845 to the "Railway king" George Hudson who had his own railway station built on the land. All that remains of the original Hall is the staircase and column bases which is where all the horses and carriages of the rich and famous used to arrive at the hall.
