Snow at Sea
At 6.30am I was awakened by a flash of lightning, followed by a rumble of thunder. This was followed by another and another until I gave up the unequal struggle and got out of the bed. What a surprise on looking out the window! Masses of snow all over the place and plenty more falling. I have never experienced snow, lightning and thunder all at the same time. Didn't know it was possible, but obviously it is. I don't believe I have ever in 60 years seen snow in November either.
The result is that we are are pretty well housebound right now. Impossible to get the car out of the drive and even if we did it would be much too dangerous to attempt to drive it anywhere. There's 10cm (4 inches) of the pesky white stuff everywhere and it's much deeper where drifting has taken place.
So, nothing for it. On with the walking boots and away on foot. Looking back over Arklow town and out to sea we could see snow flurries making their way southward even though the sun was shining on the higher ground where we were. Right now the snow has stopped but the temperature is hovering on zero and will drop to something like -6C later. With the roads rutted in snow there will be no going anywhere tomorrow.
What's all this I keep hearing about Global Warming?
