Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Tristan's Books

This past Monday we mailed a Hallmark recordable storybook that we had recorded to our great-grandson Tristan. We let our granddaughter, Desiree, know to be watching for a package, but we did not tell her what was in the package. Today we received these two text messages she sent us to let us know they had not only gotten the package, but she was surprised and delighted with the book.

I mentioned in yesterday's holiday blip that we had recorded another book for Tristan as we were all together yesterday. Our son, Shawn, who is Tristan's grandpa, and our daughter, Dede, and her daughter, Ashly, helped us do the reading aloud. We read the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star book for him. The recording is easy to do. We had lots of fun and even got a little emotional reading it. We will mail that in the next few days to him.

The storybook is very special to me because Grammie Teele used to recite the verses of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to me when I was a little girl . . . that's a favorite memory.

The other book, The Very First Christmas, will be taken by Mr. Fun to his elderly mom's home so she can read and record the pages for Tristan. So Tristan will have a book read by his great, great grandmother. We will mail that to him for a Christmas gift. We are sure that Desiree will be quite touched by hearing her Great-Grammie Fun reading a book for her little toddler.

And today I have experimented some with my new camera. I need to read the manual to learn some of the tricks, but overall it is a great little camera.

Good night from Southern California.

P.S. I forgot to mention on yesterday's page that we took a little gift for everyone to yesterday's holiday celebration (I love gifts) -- the gift I gave to granddaughter Ashly, who is 22, contained a letter I had written to her on her 11th birthday and a letter I wrote to her when she graduated from high school. So as everyone opened their gift, she sat quietly reading her letters until we realized she had tears streaming down her face. On the occasion of her 11th birthday, I had written the memory of the day she was born and the enormity of that moment for us as we became grandparents. Yesterday it was another enormous moment watching her re-read a couple letters I had given to her years ago. I've always felt that one of the most important gifts I can give or receive is the written word. Yesterday was truly a special day regarding reading, writing, and family.
