Memories 2: Movies

~~Backblip~~

Another offering from the Memory Box. I don't know why I keep cinema tickets but I do. Not for every film, but now and again.

You'll notice quite a few Casino Royale stubs there... I saw that film 3 times in the first week. I'm a huge James Bond fan, so I wrote my English Lit dissertation on 'James Bond as Mobile Signifier.' It was based on a study from the 80's so I wanted to update it, covering one film from each of the 3 Bonds since (Dalton, Brosnan, & Craig). Timing meant I only had 2 weeks between the first Craig film coming out, and my dissertation being handed in. Hence 3 times in one week!

Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire, I saw with my mum. I think I saw the Wedding Crashers with Mathew - don't remember much of the film, but I do remember his snoring. To be fair, that could be almost ANY film we went to see together (including Paranormal Activity - where he woke up at the end and declared it crap!) Star Wars and Bridget Jones are linked! I can't remember who I saw Star Wars with, but I didn't see Bridget Jones with Fraser. We bought tickets for it, but got so caught up in talking about Star Wars that we just followed the guys in front of us into the cinema... where The Grudge was on. I had wanted to see that rather than Bridge Jones, so I think Fraser thought I'd engineered it! Either way, we were too embarrassed to leave. At that time, it was genuinely the scariest movie I'd ever seen. However, watching it again on DVD it was pretty rubbish, so I think it's a shining example of how genre works... because we were expecting Bridget Jones, and light-hearted rom-com, we'd set our expectations... and this therefore effected our perception of The Grudge! I think I saw Scary Movie with Fraser too.

Lots happened today. First of all, my car got a new wing mirror. Service was Monday, Tyres were Tuesday, Mirror Weds. Which meant that after that (and a brief lunch with Julian) we were off to Bristol. Phylis is gone! I am no longer a car owner! Wanted to take a pic, but didn't realise the process would be so quick. There wasn't a chance - should've taken one before we went :(

When we got home, couldn't be bothered cooking (again) so we went to Hooters. We were very unimpressed at first, but then Cotton Eye Joe came on, and all the girls danced. We realised we were just being miserable, and after that we actually really enjoyed ourselves. It was also fun watching all the old pervs leching. Hopefully the girl serving us wasn't too offended by our repeated refusal of her kind offers to have group pictures taken!
