Hooray, it's bedtime!

Horrendous day today, ophthalmologist for both boys. Nightmare. 9am appointment. Late. Obviously.

No.1 son screamed the entire place down at the prospect of drops in his eyes. I felt terrible, I hadn't prepared him because he tends to stew on things(!) but he was beside himself. It's so hard to know how to handle it and of course there are a hundred nurses all tutting at him (and my parenting). He's not a naughty boy at all but he does make a fuss about doctors/dentists etc. Eventually he let it happen as long as it was me who did it and he could have a comfort cloth and biscuit straight after. I was so torn, not knowing if I was rewarding him for bad behaviour, but he was just scared. Anyway, by now it was 11.20 and I had a 1pm meeting. Plus angelic no.2 son, who had the drops in his eyes first time, did everything the ophthalmologist said and was only marginally obstructive due to his desire to cuddle her all the time, was rewarded for his behaviour by being told he needs glasses too. I can't even imagine how that will work. But one thing at a time.

I rang school to say there was no point taking no.1 in and raced to childminders to drop him off. He fell asleep on the way and was (again) beside himself when he woke up and had to go inside.

Threw no.2 son in to his nursery and made it to work just in time for my meeting.

Finished as early as I could and arrived back to childminders house at 5pm where no.1 son was pale and pathetic on the sofa, having just been sick.

Carried floppy, poorly child to the car and made it home, at which point he dramatically perked up. Leading me to the conclusion that sickness was probably all linked to the trauma of the day rather than anything more sinister. Bath and bed has gone pretty smoothly and I don't have to go to work tomorrow (yay!) But lots of preparation to do for the weekend (no.1 nephew's birthday) so it'll be a busy evening tonight!

Hopefully we'll all get some sleep though.
