WHITE FACED HERON

The Christchurch Estuary is an ever moving entity. Yesterday I was on my bike riding across the Estuary and saw a Gannet feeding horizontaly - I couldnt believe my eyes - it was taking off and getting to a height of about 3-4 feet and diving in with the same downward movment - horizontaly Not only did this feeding surprise me but I cannt recall ever seeing a Gannet this far South - although Mrs Poo says she has.

I flew home - broke a world record on by bike (absolutely stuffed) grabbed my camera and back to the Location in the car - GONE!! Buggar !! Went back today with hope ( similar tide ) - No sign - a Oncer ! probably never see it again.
Come back the Gannett !!
