Plunge Pool
I often mention 'my wood' in blips and I thought that a piece of its history might be in order today.
This pool was built in the wood round about 1832 for a local estate. The wood belonged to them and they used it for recreation as well as providing fish for the dinner table (there's a large pond just beyond this pool) The 'gentlemen' from the Country House would ride out to the wood and ride over a constructed hurdles course and then cool off in the pool.
Some of the locals call it " The Maidens' Pool" but a local farmer told me that his great grandfather said "They might have come as maidens, but they didn't bloody well leave as them" The wood is still used as a 'courting' venue.
