Queen Mary
Spent an enjoyable afternoon touring the Queen Mary, located in Long Beach, CA. Starting with her maiden voyage in 1936 the QM spent many years traversing the Atlantic Ocean (516 voyages including time as a troop transport during World War II) before being decommissioned after arriving in Long Beach in 1967.
We started with a quick lunch in the Promenade Cafe, followed by our own self-guided tour of the many decks and exhibits. The highlight of the day had to be the Ghosts and Legends Tour which took us, and other brave souls, on a tour of the ship's "paranormal areas". The Ghosts Tour started with this view of the old first-class pool, which "is always wet no matter how many times staff mops it up" according to our guide. Even though the room was very, very dark, I was able to brace my camera on the railing surrounding the pool and get a photo that showed more then was visible to the unaided eye.
