Wilfred Owen - war poet

Know all those lists of '100 Things To Do Before You Die'? Well, forget flying over the Grand Canyon in a Helicopter. Here's what everyone should do:

Go to see the War Graves in northern France.

Walk around Tyne Cot cemetery on the fields of Paschendaele. Headstones as far as the eye can see.

Stop to see the tiny roadside cemeteries honouring 'pals' regiments where they fell.

See the graveyard on the Vimy Ridge with the Statue dedicated to the Canadians and Scots who fell there - some shown as being 16 but anectodal evidence says they lied about their ago to go to war. Walk the trenches, now shallow and green.

Go to Talbot House in Poperinge, santuary for soldiers stepping back from the front, climb the ladder to the chapel in the roof.

Finally go to the last post at the Menin Gate, which still takes place every evening. Now, that will make you feel small.
