Autumnal Thames!

Once again, I have been seduced by the wonderful colours of the trees as they take on their autumn hues.

This is a view of the River Thames at Abingdon. Though BST ends this night, the weather is superb, and some people are still enjoying "messing about on the river".

Abingdon is not far from our home in Oxford, but is very different in atmosphere.

Amongst the fine buildings are

The County Hall

built between 1678 and 1684 to house the Berkshire Assize Courts by Christopher Kempster, a protege of Sir Christopher Wren. It was built to house the Berkshire Assize Courts. Other interesting remains include parts of

The Abbey

founded in 675.

There are many delightful corners in this town. One I particularly like is this

quiet backwater of the Thames

with its brick-faced old bridge. Just behind is a smart hotel.
