Brampton old church - our coffee stop

Today' long walk was a circular from Brampton. First we headed for the old church; it is all that remains of the original settlement of Brampton. I am told that the houses and people were all moved to the site of the current town, leaving the old church all alone. It is on a piece of higher ground near an old Roman fort (one of those that pre-dates Hadrian's Wall)

The autumn colours were splendid in the peaceful graveyard, especially in this tree which appeared (almost) to be on fire. We had our coffee stop, and G, one of our walkers, provided human interest and scale for me.
