Fire engine!

We made it out this morning to Durrington Children and Family Centre, where there was a fire engine paying a visit! It's the first time we've managed to get out to one of these visits, they all seemed to be on Wednesdays when Ben was in nursery - now I've changed his day to Monday it means we can finally go to some messy play and fire engine visits and things like that.

Truth be told, I think I was more excited than Ben was. We arrived a bit late but all I think we missed was the firemen showing off their kit (bummer). But that did mean Ben didn't have to wait very long to queue up to use the water hose. He did nearly get taken out twice by shoulder bags though. Not fun being a little person whose head is just at the right height for womens' shoulder bags...

Then we waited some more, to have a go at climbing into the fire engine itself. I think Ben was actually more excited about the climbing part of it, rather than the fact that it was a fire engine, although at one point he DID finally twig and started yelling NEE NAW NEE NAW at the top of his lungs.

After that it was messy play. Water was Ben's choice of mess. He loves water. I like water. I much prefer it over cornflour and water, or gloop, or shaving foam. Paint I can cope with as well because at least it has a point... So we played with the water, and then cake arrived!! The lure of cake is SO overwhelming (speaking of which, this is the most brilliant bit of writing about the lure of cake that I've EVER read!) that he forgot all fear and trotted right over to the lady with cake... "ake?" hehe. He got cake. :)

All the way home (and quite frequently during the morning) he has been asking for a hat. I guess he means a fireman's hat. So, after I've had my coffee and cake in peace, and Ben has woken up from his nap (all that excitement has done gone worn him out - yippee), we shall head off out into town and spend some of his birthday money on a fireman's hat.

Funny really.

It's the last day of my 20's and I'm more bothered about getting Ben a fireman's hat. I guess I'm all hyped out. Turning 30 is no longer the massive milestone that it used to seem....
