Paddy's Pumpkin Patch
Today we started the day early with the boys 3 soccer games. The forecast was rain so I was prepared for the worse. I wasn't looking forward to sitting in the rain, but the coordinator of the youth soccer said they play, rain or shine. Another reason we didn't want it to rain was because Gary has been helping to coordinate our church golf tournament, which was today. Rain would not be good for that. The golf tournament's proceeds go to the youth ministries and ended up being VERY successful. The rain started to come down on the 18TH HOLE!!! Yay...it held out through almost the entire tournament and the 3 soccer games! Loren's team won 7-1, Liam's team won 4-1 and Landon's team scored the most goals (they don't keep track at the 5 and under division). All three games overlapped this weekend for the 1st time, so I missed half of each of their games. Nana showed up and watched the parts of the games that I had to miss :)
Afterwards we headed for a lunch at Subway with my boys, Nana & Loren's friend, Chris. Chris hung out with us for the day since his dad was in the golf tournament. When we were finished with lunch, we went to Paddy's Pumpkin Patch. The older brother of a boy on Loren's team grows this patch each year to support children in Honduras. In three previous pumpkin sales, he has raised $8,900, which has purchased 25 mattresses for an orphanage, built a second story with three classrooms at Proverbs school, purchased supplies and computers, built two bathrooms and an overhang on a playground to provide cover from the rain/sun, provided scholarships for children, paid teachers who hadn't been paid in three months, helped purchase a new school van, and provided toys to daycare centers and schools. We felt it was WELL WORTH buying our pumpkins at the patch behind his home for this worthy cause. The 3 older boys picked out 3 HUGE pumpkins and Landon chose a little pumpkin, perfect for his size.
