The end of the beginning
Continuing on the Alton Towers theme, here's a little bit of history.
Alton Towers is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
We went there 25 years ago, and The Corkscrew was the biggie back then. It was the first 'double helix' coaster in the UK and I remember it was fantastic. Always a must-do every time we went back subsequently.
In 2008, The Corkscrew was retired, or dismantled really.
And at the entrance to the site, there is now a homage to the old dear, including the double helix. Although it has been painted blue! The Corkscrew was yellow coaster.
Now there is another coaster, called TH13TEEN (see what they did there?), on the former corkscrew site. They is a very good new-age coaster. Again, I will do a proper review of this on my site shortly.
