Webs and water

Slow start to the day. We had to leave Castres quite early for a house viewing south of Castelnaudary. A huge huge huge project - which we decided was just too much for us. The next viewing was back over in Minervois, and again was just too much - this time with the house sliding down a hill too, not ideal. It did have some fabulous cobwebs though.

It poured all day, and the rivers all looked very swollen. As we struggled down the A9 in pretty much zero visibility because of the rain, we started getting slightly concerned about our house: the river floods only very very rarely - we were told that it only happens every 50 years or so. Like today. You'll see in this blurry snap how close it's getting to the pool.

Also, some idiot* had left a doormat over a drain just outside the door - so instead of going down the drain, the water poured under the door and all through our house. Damage seems, happily, pretty limited (hurrah for tiled floors) with only one wall looking a bit stained by the water, but all this is really not what we need with our purchasers coming for one last visit on Wednesday before signing papers on Thursday.

Normally here the sound of the river is a wonderful backdrop - the constant noise in the background that drowns out everything else and makes it easy to sleep. Not so tonight: the horrendous roar lead to a very restless night for everyone. And it rained all night too.

*No, I don't mean Mr B. My money is on the last renters we had: the ones who asked for a refund because they are vegetarians and they thought the chopping boards and barbecue might have had meat on them.
